Tips To Improve Golf Score And Driving Distance

A long drive straight down the fairway. What a beautiful sight. We all hit one now and then, the problem is only now and then. What do we do right when we hit a good drive and what do we do wrong when we don’t? Perhaps some tips to improve golf score and driving distance would be helpful.

Golf is a game of fundamentals, but it also should be enjoyable. If we worry too much about the fundamentals, we take the enjoyment out of the game. Also I have found that too much thinking leads to more trouble.

Therefore I have always worked on fundamentals while practicing. If you practice enough, the fundamentals become almost automatic and you won’t need to dwell on them during a match. The trick is to get to a point that you do things naturally, without conscious thought.

In order to do this, when you are practicing or taking lessons, put good things – the right way of doing something – into your subconscious. You’ll be surprised, if you do some thing right and do it often enough in practice, if you then put it into your subconscious, it will become a part of your game. You will just do them naturally without thinking.

For instance, if you want to improve golf swing it will become automatic that you watch your grip. You will know without thinking that if you let your grip slip so that the head of your driver turns back a little and your club face flies open, you are going to slice the drive. On the other hand, if the club face turns over into what is known as a closed face, you will experience a hook.

Some times a hook or slice isn’t bad. You see the better golfers hit them when the need arises. But, usually you want a good straight drive to improve driving distance. Some times its even better to hit your drive with an iron if the fairway is narrow and has a lot of trouble on either side. Some other things that should become automatic is leg position golf swing. This is positioning your stance according to wind conditions.

If the wind is in your face you will want to tee the ball a little lower and your stance should be so that your foot is closest to the ball. This will cut down on the wind resistance that tends to hold back your drive. If the wind is to your back, tee the ball higher and take a stance with the back foot closer to the ball. This will cause you to hit a higher drive and take advantage of the wind.

There is no one big thing that will improve golf game. But attention to many small things can cut a lot of strokes off your game and relieve a lot of frustration. No one can teach you everything right and you will never be able to do everything right. The greatest golfers in the world will be in trouble several times in the course of a match, the big difference in them and the ordinary golfer is that once they are in trouble, they know how to get out of it.

That is what most golfers fail to do. Practice getting out of trouble situations. We practice hitting off the tee, hitting irons and putting but until we are in trouble we seldom think of it. Yet that is the key to improve golf score. All of these tips will help you to improve golf game, but without constant and dedicated practice nothing can help.
