Golf is all about balance.

You need to get the right balance on your feet, in the movement of your body, in the swing of the clubs and so on.

Balance goes further than just the body however. You need a balanced approach to the game with your mind in sync with your body.

You need to only consider the one stroke that you are playing and not let other holes impact on your balance.

When we get golf lessons we’re taught about the distribution of weight on our feet and the weight distribution when we swing to strike the ball.

More Information:
a balanced approach

Many of the techniques seem foreign to the beginner but it is all about training the player to find balance in their game so the actions are effortless and natural.

Our balance should flow through with the movement of the swing in one fluid action to the striking of the ball and even after the ball has been hit with a balanced follow through.

It is a natural feeling that will become second nature with practice.

It is through finding balance in your mind and body that you will start hitting consistently good shots.
Without this it will be very difficult to find any consistency in your game.

Once you get your upper body correctly positioned behind the ball, you will find that you are naturally placing more weight on the back foot.

Try it next time you have a practice swing. Stand balanced on your feet with no more pressure on the front of the foot than the back. Position yourself behind the ball and gently swing through without making any effort to concentrate on the distribution of the weight on you feet.

You will find that this will come naturally with no effort at all and that is precisely how you should feel when you are striking the ball.

I’m about five inches from being an outstanding golfer. That’s the distance my left ear is from my right. – Ben Crenshaw

That statement applies to every golfer, from the bungling duffer to the tournament pro. We either think too much or not enough, but you do need to think and that thinking must be constructive.

I’m not going to preach the power of positive thinking here, but I am going to give you some golf pitching tips that border on that line of thinking.

Most good golfers will agree that the game is at least seventy-five percent mental. Take for example certain clubs, we get it into our heads that we can’t hit a certain club with any degree of accuracy and guess what? We don’t.

If you think you have trouble hitting long irons why do you fight it? Instead of hitting a three or four iron, hit a five wood instead. Personally, the five wood has always been one of my favorites. It gives you some loft and I just feel more comfortable with it.

That’s the key, if you feel more comfortable with a wood than an iron, hit the wood. The reason again is that you have more confidence and that five inch space between your ears is telling you that you can do it.

Lately there has been a lot of talk about hybrid clubs. These are a combination of woods and irons. If you are having trouble with irons, you should look into them.

Here’s a tip I have found to help when I am hitting a pitch shot. I usually take an iron that I feel is a club too long. For instance if I think I can reach the cup with an eight iron, I will take a seven instead. I take a nice smooth stroke and imagine that I am hitting the ball right over the flag. Not up to the flag, but over it. Nine out of ten times I will come up a few feet short of the hole. I don’t know why this works, but does for me. Try it, just imagine that you are hitting the ball over the flag, not up to it but over it.

For most golfers the high trajectory irons – the eight, nine and the wedge are the hardest to master. For some reason they get the idea that because they are used for short distances, they should take a different swing. Every club in your bag should be hit the same way. The reason that you have fourteen clubs are that they are each made for a different purpose.

The problem seems to be that golfers try to swing the way a club looks. With a lofted club that is cupped, they seem to feel that they should swing upward and scoop the ball or they take a chop at it as if the were chopping down a small sapling. This ruins the intent of the club. Every stroke should be the same, regardless of the shape of the club face.

With a nine iron or a wedge, keep your head down and hit just behind the ball. Don’t chop down. Follow through just as you would with any other club. By hitting slightly behind the ball you take a divot and cause the ball to have back spin that in turn will cause the ball to bite or stop once it hits the green.

When you see a ball go flying or rolling fast across the green, this is the result of scooping or hitting the ball flush. Visualize the result of every shot you take, before and during your swing. Once you get into the habit of seeing the result of your shot in your minds eye, you will get much better results.

Once you get more comfortable with your irons and gain confidence in them by visualizing the results, you will find that they can be a powerful tool to improve golf score and break 80 everytime.

The problem when the ordinary golfer slices or hooks the golf ball is that is was not what they meant to do. A lot of good golfers intentionally play a slice or hook but, when they do it is with a pretty good idea where the ball will go. That’s the difference – knowing where a slice or hook will go.

Most slicing occurs on the drive. The ball goes flying off into the rough or woods and the trouble begins and no matter how hard we try to correct golf slice; the problem just keeps getting worse. This golfing partner and that golfing partner give advice, but nothing works. Probably the reason that their advice doesn’t work is because they are slicers to.

What makes it more frustrating is that you can go out to a driving course and try some new method you have heard about and you start hitting the ball as straight as an arrow and you think that the problem is solved.

So, on the weekend you go out to the old golf course all full of confidence and ready to impress everyone with the way you have learned to improve golf swing. You step up to the tee and hit what you think will be the perfect drive and there it goes slicing off into the rough.

If this is what has been happening to you I have some good news and some bad news for you. The good news is that I am going to give you some tips that may help you fix golf slice. It doesn’t involve buying a new set of clubs or paying for expensive golf instructions.

The bad news is that it will require a lot of practice and will power to make the simple techniques become habit with you, so that you won’t slip back into the old bad habits.

When you first started playing golf, such things as stance, grip and all the other techniques of golf probably meant very little to you. Someone probably stuck a tee in the ground , put a ball on it and told you to hit it.

That’s when you started developing your habits – most of them bad. If you hit a drive that sliced or hooked, you might have wondered why the ball acted that way, but you just kept on playing and rejoiced when you hit one right down the middle.

Now, you have decided to take the game a little more serious. You want to hit the ball straight, do things right and get to playing some respectable golf. The first thing you want to do is fix that slice.

Here are some things that you can do for starters. Check your stance. Most golfers have too wide a stance, this causes an inside out swing which opens the club face at contact and causes the ball to slice.

Be conscious of your grip, if you grip the club too tightly it will cause an awkward swing and again might cause a slice or a hook. On the other hand, a grip that is too loose will allow the club to slip and fly open, again causing a slice.

The main causes of a slice is stance and grip. So if you get into the habit of closing you stance a little so that it feels comfortable and loose. Pay attention to your grip. Not too tight and not too loose. Keep the hand grip straight with the thumbs pointing straight down the shaft at the ball and cut down on your swing.

Don’t try to hit the ball too far for awhile. Your aim is to get to the point that you are hitting straight drives practically everytime. After you master this technique, you can start trying for more driving distance.

This is just a few of the things that will help cure a slice. It isn’t meant to be a cure all, but it will get you started in the right direction to stop the slice.

You will find more answers to stop the slice as well as many other troubling golf problems at stop the slice and improve golf swing.

When you hit a bad shot or have a poor round of golf, don’t you wish that you had an instructor to tell you what you did wrong and the source of your problems?

If you only had someone to tell you why the ball sliced or hooked. Someone to tell that you gripped the club wrong and how to grip it right. But, instead you keep making the same mistakes that cause frustration, puts you into sand traps and just about every problem on the golf course.

You keep trying to remember all the things that you have read and been taught about how to improve golf swing but the tension increases and you grip the club tighter and you top the ball or the ball starts flying in all directions. You grip the clubs even tighter until your knuckles are white from the pressure. If your clubs had to breathe you would choke them to death.

On the next tee you try to remember the tips you read about how to improve golf driving distance. But by now you are so confused that you can’t remember anything. Now is when you need some instructions, something to calm you down and restore your confidence. You need instructions. The good news is that you can. You can take your instructions with you and refer to them quickly and easily.

If you have ever watched football, you should have noticed the quarterback looking at his wrist before he calls a play. What he is doing is looking at instructions. The coach calls a play from the sidelines and he looks at his wrist for the instructions to execute the play. Just as there are too many plays for a quarterback to remember, so are there too many things for you to remember out there on the golf course.

So, you can just make a list of solutions to the most important problems you have to improve golf game and you have your instructor right there with you. It’s an easy thing to do, but it can have a very calming effect and relieve a lot of tension. It’s like having your own personal golf pro walking along with you and giving you instructions when things start going wrong.

Try carrying your own list of game savers around with you and read them at the least sign of your game falling apart. You will find that they can be a powerful tool to improve golf score and break 80 everytime.
